Intruder Attacks Two Elderly Bedford Women
BEDFORD (CBS 11 News) ―
Bedford police are on the lookout for the man who assaulted two elderly women during a home invasion. Early Friday morning police received a call reporting a male intruder in a residence. The house is the residence of two women, 81 and 85 years old.
One of the women told police her pet woke her up and she believed it needed to go outside. When the woman walked toward the back of the residence she was surprised by a man, dressed in all black, standing in a back room.
The woman says she began struggling with the intruder and screamed to alert the second resident. The second woman then became involved in the struggle. Both females sustained numerous injuries as a result of the altercation.
After the physical altercation the intruder took one of the females into a bedroom, and bound and gagged her. During this time, the other female, who had been knocked unconsciousness, came to and was able to make it to a neighbor's house to call for help.
"Eventually one of them was apparently knocked unconscious, claims she went unconscious as a result of the assault. The other woman was choked to the point to where she claimed she passed out," says Lt. Kirk Roberts, Bedford Police Department. "Which is very concerning, because this could have actually resulted in two deaths for us."
The suspect managed to escape before officers arrived. Both women sustained non-life threatening injuries.
Police say the robber took a small coin purse containing cash and other personal items.
