Richardson PD: Teacher Had Sex With 2 Students

RICHARDSON (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
A Richardson High School teacher has been arrested and charged with having a sexual relationship with two high school students.
Teacher and coach Brent Archie was originally arrested on Wednesday night for having a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old female student. Late Thursday evening, police upgraded his charges, stating Archie and another student engaged in sexual intercourse and oral sex.
The 31-year-old has now been charged with four counts of Improper Relationship Between Educator and Student.
Archie was originally arrested for a relationship that took place after school hours. The information came to light a week and a half ago when the girl was at a Christian camp in Colorado. Initially Archie denied the charges and offered to take a polygraph test. After failing it, police say he confessed.
RISD officials released a statement that said, in part – "RISD has received information from the Richardson Police Department alleging serious misconduct by one of our employees. The employee has been placed on leave, and RISD will continue to cooperate with police."
The arrest warrant affidavit says the student, who attended the school during the 2007-2008 school year, initiated the relationship and often called the coach on his cell phone to arrange meetings outside school.
"It appears as though both parties were willing participants - unfortunately for our suspect, she is a 16-year-old juvenile," Richardson Police Sgt. Kevin Perlich said.
The coach and student allegedly had sex at Archie's Plano residence and in his car between February and March of 2008.
According to officials, the two engaged in sexual intercourse and oral sex but the encounters never took place on RISD property.
Bobby Smiga, who was the school 07-08 quarterback, was coached by Archie. "I knew him pretty well and it's just crazy that that happened," he said. "Rumors go round all the time about stuff, but it's never true."
Archie, who was a football and wrestling coach at Richardson High, remains in the city lockup with a total bond of $80,000.
After interviewing a second victim, police say they found out the following information: The relationship with the second student began in May 2007 and lasted until July 2008. The girl was 15 when the two first had sex and was 17 when they last had sex. Police say Archie and student engaged in sexual intercourse at least 10 times in the coach's office on school grounds.
Police also say that Archie and the female student engaged in oral sex at least 30 times in at Archie's home in Plano. Police discovered this new victim today after interviewing her.
Archie is a teacher and coach at Richardson High School and has been with the district for seven years.
Police say they continue to interview students, looking for other possible victims.
