Victims Of Hate Crime Say They Will Stand Firm
ARLINGTON (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
Broderick Gamble took his fiancé to the emergency room Sunday morning after she became the victim of a hate crime.
Gamble ran through a list of Silk Littlejohn's injuries, "She can't hear out of her right ear. Her face is swollen. She has a few loose teeth."
Police arrested Grace Head, one of Littlejohn's neighbors, for the assault.
Gamble said during the attack, Head yelled, "You f'n n's are not going to move here!"
Head was referring to the couple's home, which is under construction on Ross Trail. Their first home burned down two years ago, and investigators still don't know the cause of the fire.
Two days after the attack, someone spray painted a racial slur along with the words "kill" and "die" on their garage door.
"We were floored," said Gamble. "My neighbor saw it, and he's Caucasian, and he just broke down crying."
Gamble said the grief became too much for Littlejohn, and that's when he took her to the hospital.
Police say the most recent attacks were not the first time the couple had been targeted. The couple has also repeatedly found dead animals on their property.
"We're not going to be pushed out," said Gamble. "We will not run. We will not hide. We're going to stand our ground, and we're going to fight. We're not moving anywhere."
Police have set up constant patrols around their home.
