Brooke Daniels Crowned New Miss Texas USA

LAREDO (AP) ― A 22-year-old model and communciations major at Sam Houston State University was crowned Miss Texas USA Sunday night.

Brooke Daniels, representing Harris County, won the competition over 110 others in the pageant in Laredo. She also was named Most Photogenic.

Miss Houston, Elise Horner, was first runner-up. Ana Rodriguez, Miss Port Laredo, was second runner-up. Rounding out the top five were Taylor Britton, Miss Montgomery County, and Tahnae Tarkenton, Miss Lake Austin.

Atia Willis, Miss Austin, was named Miss Congeniality. Raquel Tidwell, Miss Katy, was the swimsuit winner.

The pageant was the last in a five-year contract with Laredo.

"This is something we're very proud of," City Councilman Johnny Rendon said in a story for Monday's Laredo Morning Times. "It's been a wonderful event for the community. The exposure we've gotten has been fantastic."

In the lobby of the of the Laredo Entertainment Center, members of the Military Mons and Wives of Brazoria County, raised money with the People's Choice Award with proceeds going to ship care packages to troops overseas.

The group raised about $3,000.

Lauren Sapaugh, Miss Bayou City, won the People's Choice Award.
