Building A Fence On The U.S. - Mexico Border

A combination of steel and virtual fencing was first proposed to stop illegal immigration and smuggling in Dec. 2005. The proposed 2,000 mile fence would be built in parts of California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas.

Supporters said the fence would cut down on crime and drug smuggling, but opponents believe the fence would negatively impact the environment and not won't protect the border.
