Woman Dead After House Fire In Burleson
BURLESON (CBS 11 News) ―
A 78-year-old Burleson woman was trapped in her home as it burned. And despite the best efforts of local firefighters, she did not make it out in time.
The incident started at around 4:45 p.m. on Friday afternoon. Neighbors described the scene as noisy, with lots of flames and lots of smoke.
One neighbor said that he was outside as the house was burning. He spotted the woman's daughter standing in the front yard of the home. She explained that she was able to escape, but her mother was trapped inside the house.
According to neighbors, the 78-year-old mother was confined to a wheelchair.
"The lady was yelling that her mom's inside and to help," said neighbor John Garcia. "I tried to go help but there was a lot of smoke. The front door was open. I tried to go to the back door. The back door was hot, so I couldn't open it."
"We could hear the lady screaming from the inside," Garcia said.
Firefighters arrived at the scene and were able to pull the woman from the living room of the home. They performed CPR, but sadly, she died at the scene.
"I felt bad because I couldn't do nothing," said Garcia.
The daughter was transported to the hospital for smoke inhalation.
The cause of the fire is unknown.
"It's sad and scary," said neighbor Nancy Anderson. "I'm just anxious to find out what caused the fire."
