Sanger Students Hurt After Bus Radiator Line Burst
District Pulls 3 Buses From Service, Contacts Manufacturer
SANGER (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
The students who were injured Thursday night when they were sprayed with antifreeze were released from the hospitals where they received treatment and Sanger District officials have contacted the company that manufactured the bus.
Eighteen Sanger Middle School football players were on the bus when the radiator overheated and burst.
The team was on their way back from a football game in Gainesville.
School officials said the bus carrying the team was minutes away from campus when the problem occurred.
When the group arrived at the school, coaches reacted quickly and ordered the players to shower and wash off the chemical.
Authorities said the burning liquid inside the radiator injured a 14-year-old boy, who was one of the quad of students taken to Parkland. He was flown to Parkland Hospital with second-degree burns to his legs. The other two were taken by ground ambulance to Denton hospitals.
In a release, district officials said this 72-passenger bus and two others were purchased from Blue Bird in May.
The buses involved in the accident have only been used for extra curricular activities -- like the football game -- and has less 3,000 miles logged. None of these three buses are used on daily routes and all were removed from service, officials said.
Sanger is located 45 miles north of Fort Worth along Interstate 35.
