Residents Decide Not To Help Sex Offender Move Out
Plano HOA Would Have Paid To Help Sell Sex Offender's House
Four Other Sex Offenders Found Living Close To Plano Schools
PLANO (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
A plan for residents to help pay for a registered sex offender to move out of a Plano neighborhood was voted down Monday night.
In 1986, Kenneth McQuade was convicted of the sexual assault of three
boys, ages 9, 11 and 14. He currently owns and lives in a home about
900 feet from the Sait Elizabeth's Youth Center.
McQuade is in direct violation of the Plano ordinance which states that
a sex offender can not live within 1,000 feet of a place where children
congregate.
The Carriage Hills Homeowners Association is determined to see him move. They would have given whoever bought McQuade's house $8,000 to go toward the closing cost.
Over 100 people showed up to vote, and most did not want the money spent in that way.
"They should use a law to get rid of him, not our money," said one resident.
"I don't know that it would solve anything to pay the $8,000 to get him
to move, because he could just move right down the street," said
Chuck Kralemann, a resident of the Plano neighborhood.
Plano police have not fined McQuade daily because they say he is doing all that he can to move out.
"When a person owns a home, it usually takes more than 30 days to move out," said Plano police spokesperson Rick McDonald. "Our best intent here is to work with Mr. McQuade and work with homeowners and make the solution positive for everyone."
A quick search on the
Family Watchdog Web site revealed that McQuade is not the only convicted predator living too close to schools. Four other sex offenders were found living within 1,000 feet of places where children gather.
Police say those offenders have the right to liveĀ there because they moved to the neighborhood before the law took effect.
"I just wish those people weren't in the community anywhere," said
Kralemann. "You really never know who's living next door
to you."
