911 Call Reveals Final Moments Of Musician's Life
DALLAS (CBS 11 News) ―
From a 911 call released by Dallas Police, CBS 11 News has learned new information surrounding the moments just before Dallas musician Jeffrey Carter Albrecht was shot and killed.
Albrecht, a member of Edie Brickell & New Bohemians and the band Sorta, was killed early Monday morning by his girlfriend's neighbor as he banged furiously on the neighbor's back door.
The just released 911 call from that morning reveal details from the point of view of the shooter, homeowner William Logg, and his wife.
On the 911 tapes, you can hear the frightened and confused moments just before the shooting and just after. The first voice is Logg's wife.
- Caller (female): There is someone in my yard and he's beating on my back door.
- Operator: Okay, ma'am.
Logg's wife continues talking with the operator, and then her husband gets on the phone.
- Caller (male): I just fired a shot at the top of the door to scare him off. I think I shot him. He's laying in the
laying in the doorway.
Albrecht, who stood 6'5", was shot in the head.
The musicians' parents, Judy and Ken Albrecht, sat down with CBS 11 News in their Plano home.

Judy and Ken say their son was taking the prescription drug Chantix. They believe the anti-smoking drug had something to do with Albrecht's violent outbreak.
A friend of Albrecht says the musician had been drinking and was taking Chantix. The drug reportedly can cause mood changes and wild dreams.
Dallas police say Albrecht had beaten his girlfriend before going to her neighbor's house, pounding on their back door, and then trying to kick the door in.
Police say Albrecht's girlfriend had bruises on her face, but did not suffer serious injuries.
Dallas police Sgt. Larry Lewis says his department isn't pursuing charges against the neighbor who shot Albrecht due in large part to the new "castle doctrine" law that allows a person to protect their property with deadly force.
Coincidentally, the neighbor involved in the shooting is also a musician. Logg, 54, is a blues guitarist who goes by the nickname "Smokey" and has recorded multiple albums.
Albrecht had been a keyboard player for Edie Brickell & New Bohemians since 1999 and had played several times with Brickell's husband, Paul Simon.
Albrecht's funeral is scheduled for Friday afternoon at Parkway Hills Baptist Church in Plano. The service is open to the public.
