Dallas Musician Releases CD After His Death
Carter Albrecht Leaves Musical Legacy
DALLAS (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
"Jesus Is Alive
And Living In London"
Some might call it a rather unusual title for a new CD. But what's more unusual is how this musical body of work came together.
"He (Carter) said, 'This is the most important thing I've ever done.' I certainly couldn't just take it and let it sit. It had to be finished," said Carter Albrecht's father, Ken Albrecht.
Seventy-five percent of the CD was finished when
Carter Albrecht was accidentally shot and killed by a neighbor on September 3, 2007. The neighbor feared the 34-year-old was trying to break in.
Friends and family believe the anti-smoking drug Chantix made Albrecht delirious, which led him to the wrong house. Those same friends and family, however, refused to let his music die along with him.
"I'm just so glad I have this and so is Judy, his mom, because it feels like we were doing something for him," said Ken Albrecht.
Some of the best producers and musicians in Los Angeles came forward and filled in the background music for the CD. Albrecht also got a little help from an old friend.
"Edie Brickell's money funded it for the most part, which was really, really nice," said Ken.
Carter made his mark playing with Brickell and the New Bohemians. He's now making a lasting impression with those who knew him best.
"I'm a little depressed that we're releasing the CD because I got to work with all his friends and now it's done and that makes me a little sad," said Ken Albrecht.
The CD is available now, but the release party is set for Thursday night at the Granada Theater. Friends, family and band mates will remember the Dallas singer/song writer.
All proceeds from the CD will go to the
Carter Albrecht Music Foundation, which provides music scholarships for North Texans.
