Child Killed In Dallas Police Officer Accident

DALLAS (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― A Dallas Police officer struck and killed a child Friday night.  It happened on South Beltline Road in Southeast Dallas around 8:00 p.m.  

Dallas Police tell CBS 11 the officer was responding to a call when he hit the 10-year-old boy. 

The boy was riding a bicycle in the street.  He was taken to Baylor University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. 

The boy has been identified as 10-year-old Cole Berardi of Dallas.

Police are investigating the accident.  The officer involved in the accident, Senior Cpl. Michael Vaughn, has been with DPD since 2003.  He has been placed on administrative leave.
