Large Cockfighting Ring Busted In Dallas
DALLAS (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
Dallas Police busted a large cockfighting ring in Southeast Dallas Saturday afternoon.
The bust happened in a field near St. Augustine Drive. Dallas Police say they were tipped to a cockfighting opearation going on that involved as many as 400 spectators.
When officers arrived many of the people scattered into nearby fields. Dallas Police used their helicopter to round up the participants.
Gambling books and over 200 dead roosters were found at the scene, along with about 100 live roosters and other malnourished animals. Needles used to give the animals steroids were also found at the scene.
Dallas Police say 70 citations were given out for spectating at an illegal cockfight. Dozens of people were arrested on outstanding warrants in previous cases.
Two men, Gregory Case and Jay Williamson, were arrested and charged with keeping a gambling place. Williamson was also charged with unlawful possession of a firearm
Dallas Animal Control is handling care for the birds, the case is still under investigation.
