Armed Gunmen Terrorize 3 Collin County Cities
Compiled From Staff Reports
COLLIN COUNTY (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
Wylie, Lavon and Sachse police are all on the look out for two armed men. Authorities believe they are behind a string of home invasions that left three people injured.
The incidents happened across Collin County early Monday morning.
Witnesses describe the suspects as young, slender men. They are about 5'5" and have Jamaican accents.
Wylie police say the suspects drove to each location in a stolen 2005 silver Toyota Corolla with license plate number V31MSS. The car was taken from the Trails Place Apartments in Wyle.
Carol and Justin D'Happart were the next victims hit, according to reports. The Wylie family said just before 6 a.m. a violent pair of suspects armed and masked with bandanas kicked in the back door and immediately ransacked the house, taking everything they could.
"He said, 'I shoot you, I shoot you!'" said Carol. "I don't know which is worse the fear of being shot or when you feel like all your stuff has been violated."
"Right when I opened the door I started yelling at him, and he hit me twice," said Justin. "It was scary and aggravating at the same time because you couldn't do anything about it."
The frightened family was forced into a back room before the suspects fled. "In the far bedroom is where he made us all go in and then shut the door and put furniture against it," said Carol.
Almost half an hour later, authorities believe the same men headed to Lavon, where they reportedly confronted a couple outside their home at gun point. Police say the suspects tried to steal the couple's car and pistol whipped a man before taking off.
"One of the assailants tried to remove her from the vehicle. She hit the gas, went across the street and hit the curb, dragging the suspect with her," said Lavon Police Chief Jason Rector.
A few minutes later and a few miles down the road, a homeowner received unsettling news. The suspects hit her home in Sachse.
"I got a phone call early this morning from my husband," said Betty Henson. "He said you have to come home now!"
"The kids said they were in there all three of them in there trying to be very quiet because they kept threatening to kill them," she continued.
The suspects rifled through their belongings, pistol whipped her son and barricaded everyone in a backroom before taking off with a TV and their white Jaguar. The car's license plate number is X83 DVJ.
"You don't know who they'll hit next because the next people might not be safe and might not be lucky like we were," said Henson.
Now authorities are urging everyone to be cautious as they continue their search for the suspects who terrorized their community.
"We believe these are connected. Wylie detectives are currently working with these agencies to coordinate an investigation," said Wylie Police Detective Venece Perepiczka.
Anyone with information is asked to call police.
