Dallas County Roads Among State's Most Congested
DALLAS (AP/CBS 11 News) ―
A state agency has proof of what many Texas drivers already know.
Dallas County, with more than 2 million residents, has a lot of traffic, but a roadway in Harris County tops the state's most congested list.
The Department of Transportation says a stretch of Interstate 45 in the Houston area tops the list of the state's 100 most congested roadways.
The roadway from South Loop 8 to Interstate 610 totaled nearly 450,000 hours of delay a mile and almost 4.3 million hours of delay annually.
Three stretches in Harris County and two in Dallas County, including No. 2 from Interstate 635 to Woodall Rodgers Freeway and No. 4 from Interstate 35E to US 75, make up the top five most congested segments.
North Texas driver Josh Thompson isn't suprised at 635 making the list. "
I really dread 635. Anytime I have to head down towards the airport during rush hour, I absolutely hate that."
Ruby Bolin thinks 75 deserves it's recent 'honor.'
"The worst road is 75. Coming home in the evening is terrible. It's bumper to bumper all the way."
TxDOT says despite 75 making the list there are no plans to improve the road as the expressway was widened a decade ago.
Delays along the highways in North Texas cost drivers millions of dollars each year. TxDOT calculates cost in the length of delays multiplied by the ammount of fuel burned while sitting in trafic.
All roads in Texas were part of the analysis, but for practical purposes only freeways, tollways, expressways, frontage roads and certain artery streets were included.
