DFW Terminal Reopens After Security Scare
(CBS 11 News)
A terminal at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport was partially evacuated at midday Saturday after security personnel spotted a substance leaking from a piece of luggage.
DFW spokesman David Magana said part of the public area at Terminal E was cleared about 11:45 a.m. after the bag was noticed.
A 300-foot perimeter was established around a baggage carousel where the bag was located.
In a news release, Ken Capps, vice president of Public Affairs at DFW Airport, confirmed TSA and airport personnel located on a baggage carousel in Terminal E leaking a substance.
Airport officials evacuated a small section of the public side of Terminal E, near gate E31.
An airport HazMat crew tested the bag for explosive materials. Two K-9 teams also swept the terminal.
The bag was examined and officials determined it posed no threat.
The owner of the bag was identified and DPS is attempting to contact him, the release stated.
Officers removed the luggage and re-opened the area after about three hours.
During the investigation, four flights were delayed, but no cancellations were reported.
Capps said DFW checkpoint wait times were reported to be about 5 minutes or less and airlines are reporting no security related delays at this time.
