Snow Aftermath Leaves Travelers In The Cold

DFW AIRPORT (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― The snow that swept across North Texas has been a headache for airline passengers. There were more flight delays and cancellations Friday and many people who were left stranded yesterday spent a second day in long lines.

It was once again a 'waiting game' at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport.

The late season storm was so bad that one day later the airlines were still playing catch up and travelers DFW Airport didn't have an easy go of it.

Long lines greeted those that were forced to find accommodations in the metroplex overnight. Some just camped out in the terminals.

Unfortunately many of those that had cancelled flights yesterday and re-booked for Friday showed up at the airport only to find out the weather once again cancelled their flights. It was the same storm that hit North Texas, now affecting those farther to the east.

CBS 11 News spoke with several American Airlines customers who had been through a rough couple of days.

"They told me to get here at eight.  My flight was at 9:20," explained traveler Catherine Burkel. "I was here and they were going to make me wait in a three hour line and miss that flight, before I knew it was canceled."

Things weren't going much better for traveler Regina Berry. "I have no idea where my luggage is. I have no overnight bag to even freshen up in the morning. It's just a nightmare," she said.

Airport officials tried to help by passing out diapers, baby formula, cots and blankets. Some concession stands were even kept open throughout the night.

CBS 11 spoke to a representative from American Airlines who said they are very sympathetic to the rough time that travelers have had the past two days. Officials say they even bought in 10-12 extra crews and flights to try and get people where they needed to go.
