Dallas OK's Verified Response For Businesses Only
by Bud Gillett
DALLAS (CBS 11 News) ―
The Dallas City Council approved a version of the controversial 'verified response' plan that will affect businesses with burglar alarms.
The original proposal affected both residents and businesses and would have police responding to burglar alarm calls only after an alarm company security guard verified a crime happened.
The council approved the measure 8-5. Month-by-month roll out begins in February and will continue for a year, city officials said.
Police groups backed verified response and said it would free up officers burdened by responding to false alarms.
Alarm companies proposed an alternative plan that would depend on Legislative action, which some say would take too long.
Also part of the approved measure is increasing the penalty for false alarms.
