Obscenities Fly at Commissioners Court
DALLAS (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
At Dallas County Commissioners Court, voices were raised over the issue of paying overtime to sheriff deputies.
Commissioners John Wiley Price and Kenneth Mayfield went face to face after Mayfield criticized the amount of overtime being paid to deputies working in Dallas County Jail.
The following is a transcript of the heated conversation.
John Wiley Price: I read the report and not only have I read the report, I have managed the damn report. I'm there every Monday.
Kenneth Mayfield: Maybe that's your problem.
JWP: No, you're the G** D*** problem.
KM: Maybe that's your problem.
JWP: No, take your a** over there and work it. Why don't you go over there and work it?
KM: There's somebody who is not working.
JWP: No, we are working.
KM: Somebody is not checking to be sure that overtime is only authorized in areas that it should be.
JWP: No that's bulls***"

JWP: We are not sufficiently staffed that particular area.
KM: Then why don't you come forward and say we need positions? The taxpayers of this hard-working county don't want to pay overtime.
Price defended the overtime, saying it was needed to finish more than $100 million worth of additions and improvement to the jail. The sheriff's department says deputies are working overtime to escort the dozens of construction workers working around inmates.
"We can not take a chance on an inmate grabbing hold of a tool or a hammer trying to escape or use it as a weapon against someone else," said Deputy Michael Ortiz, Dallas County Sheriff's Department.
The sheriff's department said overtime hours have steadily decreased as the county continues to budget for more staff at the jail.
