Large Marijuana Farm Discovered In Grand Prairie
by Kimberly Ball
DALLAS (CBS 11 News) ―
Local and federal authorities are on the scene of a major marijuana discovery in southwest Dallas County.
The five-acre pot farm is located near the intersection of Camp Wisdom Road and FM 1382, near the border of Grand Prairie and Dallas.
Authorities were alerted to the drug farm after a call from Crime Stoppers. The Dallas Police Department's Air One flew over the area and determined that there were indeed marijuana plants growing.
Police are currently on the scene confiscating the drugs. They expect to retrieve somewhere between 1500 and 2500 plants. Officials are still trying to determine who owns the land and who is responsible for growing the marijuana.
"It's very serious when you have drugsof this magnitude growing in this area that would impact so many's lives," said Lt. Tammy Ellzey of the Dallas Police Department. "It's a negative thing that we don't want to get on the street."
There is no word yet on the street value of the drugs, but authorities said that this is one of the largest pot farms in Grand Prairie's recent history.
