Jerry Jones Brags About Cowboys, New Stadium
by Doug Dunbar
ARLINGTON (CBS 11 News) ―
As construction continued on the new Dallas Cowboys stadium, team owner Jerry Jones reassured business leaders, mayors and other investors that 'Glory Park' will live up to it's name.
Like a proud papa, Jones was all smiles on Friday afternoon, bragging about the impact that, he said, the team's new stadium would have on North Texas, especially in Tarrant County. "This venue," Jones said, "will be a point of pride for Tarrant County."
Jones stressed that the massive complex in Arlington shows just how much the people of North Texas love the Dallas Cowboys.
The team owner called the Cowboys "the greatest franchise known," and he has the statistics to back it up. According to a new survey in Forbes Magazine, the Dallas Cowboys are the most valuable sports franchise in the world. This one billion dollar stadium and 'Glory Park' complex helped push Jones and the Cowboys to that number one spot, beating out the Washington Redskins and the New England Patriots.
The team is valued at $1.5 billion.
"If you spend over a billion dollars on something," Jones said, "I would hope a little of that would rub off."
So, what does a billion dollars buy? The state-of-the-art facility can seat up to 100,000 fans, and you can guarantee that every seat will be filled when the Super Bowl comes to town in 2011.
"More people will recognize," started Jones, "I'm not going to say the White House, but it will have that kind of visibility."
The stadium is set to open in 2009.
