Updated Security Lines At Dallas Love Field

DALLAS (AP) ― The Transportation Security Administration is relying on a system often used at ski slopes to help move travelers through Dallas Love Field.

The voluntary "diamond self-select" program, starting Monday, lets travelers choose the security screening lane that fits their pace.

Seasoned travelers with few carryon bags can try the black diamond lane.

Passengers with more items, or who aren't as familiar with airport security, can use an intermediate, or blue squares, lane.

Reportedly, the green circles lane is for those needing extra time, such as adults traveling with children.

One North Texas newspaper reported that some Texas airports will use a rodeo theme as part of the symbols. Family-oriented items will be included in the screening process, such as a rabbit puppet used to cover a metal detector in the family security lanes.

The TSA program started in February in Salt Lake City and Denver.

TSA spokeswoman Andrea McCauley says the system could reach Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport later this year.

Southwest Airlines is based in Dallas, with Love Field as a hub.

DFW serves as a hub for Fort Worth-based American Airlines.
