Cops Look For Driver Who Hit Elderly Dallas Man
DALLAS (CBS 11 News) ―
Police in Dallas are asking for help from the public in locating the driver who ran over an 85-year-old man on Wednesday night. According to officers, George Mingus was left in the street as the person who hit him sped away.
The incident happened at about 8:15 p.m., after Mingus had just crossed the street from a 7-Eleven store on his way back to the Tyler Street Manor retirement center. The man has lived in the home for the last decade and regularly shops at the convenience store, as do many of the residents. The home and convenience store are located diagonally to each other.
Police said that a speeding white Chevy Tahoe ran him down, smashing into Mingus so hard that it literally tore up his insides. The elderly man is now fighting for his life.
CBS 11 News spoke with the man's son, William, on Friday. He said of the driver, "They're not much of a person, that would do that."
The son also said that his father was in critical condition, and was not conscious on Thursday. William said, "He had a couple of skull fractures. He had two fractured vertabrae. He had mostly ribs broken, and he had a lacerated liver."
"They had him pretty well heavily sedated and they had tubes in his nose and throat," William explained. "I don't know if he recognized me or not."
In the meantime, the investigation has been suspending, pending new evidence or a change of heart in the driver.
Failure to stop and render aid in a car accident is a felony in the state of Texas.
