DPD Investigating Deadly Weekend Crime Spree
DALLAS (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
A violent crime spree spread across North Texas Sunday morning,
Police say three suspects committed a home invasion robbery in Carrollton. The suspects are then believed to have been involved in a carjacking and murder in Dallas, as well as several robberies at a carwash and apartment complex near the George Bush Turnpike.
Officers say they believe the crime spree began in Carrollton around 11:45 Saturday night in the 2100 block of Marsh Lane. Three men dressed in black robbed a home and stole two cars.
Then, at 1:30 Sunday morning, three men fitting the suspect descriptions carjacked a family in the 1100 block of Harry Hines. Three small children, a husband, and wife got out of their pickup. 26-year-old Atanael Campos-Lara did not. He was found shot to death a few blocks away.
Lt. Vernon Hale with the Dallas Police Department told CBS 11
"if these are the same individuals that committed all these crimes obviously they wreaked havoc on our city and the city of Carrollton, it was horrific, it was violent and obviously they've shown a reckless disregard for the law and obviously for human life".
Around 3:00 Sunday morning three men fitting the same description robbed two people at a car wash in Northwest Dallas, forcing them into their apartment where they robbed their home.
Another person driving home to the same apartment complex is robbed at gunpoint in the parking lot shortly thereafter; he was then forced into his apartment. Friends of the victim say the crime spree has shaken people who live in the area.
As of Sunday evening, Dallas Police say they are continuing to work with Carrollton Police to investigate the crimes.
