Neighbor's Fight Leaves Bullet In Woman's Bedroom
DALLAS (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
A Dallas mother says she and her children barely escaped injury as they slept early Friday morning when a neighbor fired a shot through their apartment wall.
It happened near Webb Chapel Road in northwest Dallas.
"My daughter was startled and started to cry" says Elizabeth Pecina.
It was about 4:30 this morning and Pecina was in bed with a three-year-old daughter while her older daughter slept in her own bed.
Pecina says woke up and saw white dust poof up from the wall and heard the older daughter crying. She realized it was a bullet and tried to shelter the girls.
She thought of hiding them in a closet, but then the shooting stopped. Police were called to what turned out to be a domestic disturbance next door. They say 20-year-old Jonny Rodriguez had gotten into an argument with his girlfriend.
"And apparently he went into a back bedroom and retrieved a weapon and began firing indiscriminately at the wall. And those bullets did go all the way through into the next apartment" says Dallas Police spokesman Kevin Janse.
No one was physically hurt by the flying bullets. Rodriguez went to jail on multiple charges.
"First the family violence for arguing and fighting with his girlfriend, and then the endangering a child and resisting arrest. So, he's in jail for three different charges" says Janse.
Ms. Pecina says she's heard gunshots here before but it's the first time a bullet has penetrated into her home.
She's afraid of what Rodriguez will do after he's released from jail. Afraid enough that she and her family want to move.
