DALLAS (CBS 11 News) ―
A shootout near a North Texas shopping center leaves one man dead and Dallas police with a lot of questions.
The shooting happened near Interstate-30 and Cockrell Hill Road.
Police say they are getting two different stories from those involved in the incident.
Reportedly two people, a man and a woman, were inside a blue car in a strip mall parking lot. Authorities believe the man in that vehicle shot at another car. Both the man and the woman have been detained by police for questioning.
Police say the suspect told them he shot in self defense. "He claims that he was getting carjacked, so he shoots at 'em," explained Sgt. Gil Cerda with the Dallas Police Department.
After the shooting the second car fled the scene, driving a few miles down I-30. There were three men inside that vehicle, two of which had been shot, and when authorities stopped them they heard something different.
"Then we have a second story, that we had a 'road rage' situation right there by the McDonald's," Cerda said. "The fellows in that car were claiming there was a, kind of a, road rage altercation type of situation and they were shot at."
The two men that were shot were taken to a local hospital, where one of them died.
Friday afternoon police continued questioning the other three people involved in the incident and that all are being cooperative.
Police are in the process of obtaining surveillance video from a store in the strip mall, hoping it will give them more answers.
