Denton Firefighter Faces Harassment Charges
DENTON (CBS 11 News) ―
A Denton firefighter has been arrested on harassment charges.
Daniel Robert Hankins was arrested Monday after allegedly harassing a former fire department volunteer.
In May a 37-year-old female member of the Denton FireCATS filed a harassment complaint against Hankins. The two had previously been romantically involved.
According to police weeks after the woman stopped volunteering Hankins repeatedly sent her 'threatening, graphic and derogatory text messages and phone calls'.
The woman says she changed her phone number and e-mail provider but continued to get messages from Hankins.
On June 25 after a day of repeated calls the woman informed the Denton Fire Department Battalion Chief at Hankins' station about the situation and the harassment stopped.
Denton police met with Hankins on June 30 regarding the harassment charges and informed him he would be arrested if his behavior continued. Despite the warning, one week later Hankins allegedly sent two messages to the woman.
Hankins faces misdemeanor harassment charges. According to Denton Fire Department Deputy Chief Mark Klingele, Hankins remains a full-time employee of the department and until the investigation into the complaint is complete no disciplinary action will be taken.
