Plano Driver Charged With 5 Counts Of Manslaughter

PLANO (CBS 11 News/AP) ―

A driver accused in a wreck that killed a Plano couple and three children has been charged with five counts of manslaughter.

The accident happened Sunday after the victims left church.

Plano police say 46-year-old David Calhoun Jones of Metairie, Louisiana, remains hospitalized from injuries suffered in the collision. His bond is set at $100,000 for each count.

Police say the Hart family had just left a morning service at Custer Road United Methodist Church in Plano when their minivan was hit by a car that ran a red light.

The victims were Geoff Hart, his wife Christy, their 12-year-old daughter Rebekah and two female foster children they'd been caring for.

Pamela Palmer of McKinney is the birth mother of the two foster children, 5-year-old Raven Lucas and Kavinnesha Palmer, 6, who died along with the Geoff family. An attorney for Palmer says the mother is devastated and grief stricken.

Friends say the Geoff family was active in missions, Sunday school and foster care. The couple had reportedly been fostering children for a few years.

Police say Jones was driving a rented black Pontiac G6 westbound on Legacy Drive when he struck the minivan driven by Christy Hart.
