There are new developments in the baseball bat beating death of a McKinney mother of three. Denise Stephens' mother went to court Wednesday to try to prevent her young granddaughters from having to see their father.
Brent Stephens remains jailed on $1,000,000 bond. He's accused of attacking his ex-wife and beating her to death with a baseball bat.
Wednesday a judge ruled that Brent Stephens' entire family can have no contact with his three children.
Brent Stephens is charged with murdering his ex-wife Monday morning. After the attack the 38-year-old reportedly told someone that he was going to commit suicide.
Carrollton police say the man spent some time on the George Bush Turnpike over Interstate-35 sitting on the ledge with his feet dangling over.
Police negotiators managed to talk Stephens off the bridge and took him into custody.
Denise Stephens leaves behind three little girls, ages 2, 7 and 9. For their safety the girls will stay in the custody of Denise Stephens' mother, Betty Seymour. When speaking with CBS 11 News Seymour said one of girls told her that she is afraid her father will come back and harm her.
The grandmother said her daughter did everything she could for her children. "She loved them. She tried to protect them the best she knew how," says Seymour. "That's the reason the divorce happened in the first place. We needed to protect her and the children. And again the system failed her."
Seymour says the system failed because her daughter had a protective order against Brent Stephens. He wasn't supposed to come near his wife but he did on a number of occasions.
Just last week Brent Stephens admitted in court that he broke into his ex-wife's home. Contributions can be made to the
