FBI Amps Up Search For Dallas Robbery Suspect

DALLAS (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― Nearly a year and a half ago, a Dallas man was accused of stealing almost $2 million during an armored car heist. That man remains on the run from police, and the FBI is now starting a very public campaign to track him down.

Authorities are hoping that three brand new digital billboards along I-30 will help lead them to Donald Ray Williams.

According to FBI agents, in September of 2007, Williams helped pull off the largest armored car heist in Dallas, outside a Compass Bank in Lakewood.

Freddy Lee Foots was a co-conspirator in the crime, and is now serving nearly 30 years behind bars. He and his girlfriend were arrested after a chase through West Texas. Authorities seized two luxury cars and more than $600,000. But Williams and the money that he has been accused of stealing are still nowhere to be found.

"He also bought a high-end car," explained FBI Special Agent John Wetherington, "and when he realized we were close behind him, he abandoned that vehicle in Dallas."

Williams and Foots also robbed an armored car in Dallas about 20 years ago, but were both caught after a shopping spree at Neiman-Marcus in downtown Dallas. Authorities seized clothing, shoes and purses, along with nearly $500,000 and guns.

According to Wetherington, before going to prison, an FBI agent asked Williams, "'Okay, you guys have done state time together. Now, you're going to do federal time together. What are you going to do after this?' Williams boldly said, 'Oh, we'll get out and do it again.' And they did."

That is why the FBI is so determined to catch Williams now, before he has the chance to strike again.

The last known address for Williams is a house near Fair Park. His brother actually still lives in the home, but declined an interview with CBS 11 News. Although, he did say that his brother chose this lifestyle and was not raised this way, and that he has not heard from Williams since before the robbery.

The FBI is offering a $45,000 reward to anyone with information that leads to the arrest and conviction of Donald Ray Williams.
