Armored Car Robbery Suspect Caught In Central TX

ROSEBUD (AP/CBS 11 News) ― The FBI believes a man suspected of robbing nearly $2 million from an armored vehicle in Dallas two years ago has been living in San Antonio, and caught up with him Sunday in Central Texas.

San Antonio FBI spokesman Erik Vasys said Donald Ray Williams, 53, was caught in Rosebud, near Temple, around 1:30 Sunday afternoon.

Williams is suspected of being one of two men who robbed an armored car of just more than $1.9 million while it was being unloaded at a Dallas bank on Sept. 5, 2007. Freddy Lee Foots, 53, was convicted and sentenced to nearly 30 years in prison for his role in the robbery.

Foots was arrested attempting to flee to Mexico through El Paso after leading authorities on a 140-mph chase in a Mercedes AMG that was later discovered filled with cash.

The search for Williams was ramped up by the FBI earlier this year, putting his face on several billboards along I-30 in Arlington and Grand Prairie.

An intensive manhunt and media campaign Saturday in San Antonio led to a tip of Williams' whereabouts.

Both Williams and Foots previously served prison sentences for committing a similar armored car robbery in Dallas. The April 1988 heist netted $1.1 million.

Williams has been transported to the McLennan County Jail in Waco, where he will face a federal judge Monday.

He will then be transfered back to Dallas, where he will be prosecuted in Dallas' Federal Court.
