Young Girl Found Duct Taped To Tree In Wise Co.
Girl's Stepfather Arrested For Injury To A Child
COTTONDALE (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
A 35-year-old North Texas man faces a felony charge for taping his stepdaughter to a tree on Tuesday. The incident happened in the rural community of Cottondale in Wise County.
Glenn Castille was arrested on Tuesday afternoon by Wise County deputies. They were called to his house after gas line workers noticed a young girl duct taped to a tree in the front yard.
Tape was also covering her mouth.According to investigators, Castille and his 11-year-old stepson were playing with airsoft guns when police arrived. The children's mother was not home at the time.
Castille told investigators that the incident was all part of a game.
The 9-year-old girl was not injured, but neighbors remain curious and concerned. "I don't think she was in danger. I think they were trying to teach her a lesson," said Dawn Stockton, a neighbor. "It doesn't make it right. I would never tie my kids to a tree."
Stockton raised two girls and can't imagine what allegedly happened in the rural community. "You don't see that. That's crazy," she said.Investigators also said that this may not be the first time that either of the children have been taped to trees or furniture in the house.
Wise County Sheriff David Walker asked, "How long did she stay out there, 91 degrees yesterday? Whether she was in trouble or not depends on who you talk to."
Castille remains at the Wise County Jail on a $20,000 bond. He was arraigned on Wednesday afternoon and faces a charge of injury to a child.
"It doesn't matter what it is, you don't tie children to trees," Walker said. "It's very reckless on the stepdad's part, and if the mom knew about it, it's reckless on her part."
The children are now staying with family friends. Deputies continue to investigate the incident and Child Protective Services is performing a separate investigation.
