Elderly Man Says Men Carjacked, Beat Him

DALLAS (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― Earnest Taylor's daily routine ended at the barrel of a gun.

It happened in the parking lot of the corner store on Kingsley Dr. and Lancaster in Oak Cliff.

Taylor was making a trip to the store for a lottery ticket, when he says two men yelled at him to get out of his car.

"When I came out with the walking stick, I wasn't paying no mind, and they was right there," he said. "He had a pistol, a .380 automatic."

The 80-year-old says the men threw him to the ground, cane and all. It didn't end there.

"They kicked me when they laid me out," he said.

Taylor said he is now taking new protective measures. He replaced the garage door remote and changed its code so he won't be a victim again.

"I thought it was a pretty bad thing, a cruel thing, to attack a senior citizen like that," said John Beverly, Taylor's stepson.

Beverly comes in daily to arrange medications for Taylor and his wife, who's bedridden. He bemoans the direction of the neighborhood in transition.

"Good people, but the neighborhood's getting kind of bad," Beverly said.

For his part, Taylor looks forward to police finding his burgundy 1993 Lincoln town car and his attackers.

"I don't know man. They need to be dead or something. They don't care nothing about old folks," he said.

Taylor says his car was a gem. There were only 76,000 miles on it.

Police are on the lookout for his car. The license plate number is DGZ 647.
