Sansom Park Sisters "Living On Wing & Prayer"

SANSOM PARK (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― Two Sansom Park sisters in their seventies found themselves without running water when their trailer park suddenly shut down. Worse, they may soon find themselves without a home.

"We've been without water two or three days now, and we've been going to get bottled water," Frances Lowe said. Lowe is 72-years-old. She has congestive heart failure.

Her sister Eleanor Richter is 78 and has emphysema.

They live in one of eight trailer homes on the 3400 block of Skyline in Sansom Park. But when their trailer park manager died April 18, they received a letter the next day informing them the trailer park was closing down May 1. They had to leave.

"I feel sorry for them, for what they feel they had to do to other people. Just plain old get out. That's sad," Frances said.

"I figured I'd live here until I died. Well, nothing's forever I guess," Eleanor said.

Not only was there no one to manage the properties, but the owner's back taxes are more than the properties are worth.

The manager of another trailer park told the sisters they could move their trailer to their property. But the mover estimated it would cost the sisters $1,700. And Eleanor doesn't think the trailer would survive. "I know if they try to move it, it's going to fall apart. It's 1969," Eleanor said.

She's already looked into subsidized housing, but was told the wait was months.

"Stuck, you know? Between a rock and a hard place," Eleanor said.

The sisters have been paying $250 in rent for their lot, which included water and gas. They can't afford much more.

"I just live by a wing and a prayer. I ask God to help my sister, and I and to not let us end up in the street," Frances said.

Monday, their son, who lives in Iowa, will try and contact 2-1-1 to see what emergency services they can provide for the sisters.
