Friendly Robbers Steal From Elderly FW Women
FORT WORTH (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
Some well-dressed and smooth-talking thieves are targeting elderly women in Fort Worth, and could soon do the same to shoppers everywhere.
Louise Lansford had only one thing on her mind just days before her 90th birthday. She wanted to go shop at Ross, but it was an event that she will not soon forget. "These three very attractive black women came up to me and asked me where I got my shirt," Lansford explained.
Two of the thieves chatted with Lansford while a third thief reached into her shopping cart and grabbed her purse. "I put my billfold at the bottom," Lansford said. "I had two or three cases, but she kept on until she found my billford."
Lansford lost cash, a credit card, her driver's license and beloved photos. "My children," she began, "great grandchildren, my favorite picture of my husband."
Lansford continued, "We're just too trusting to everybody, and we just don't think anybody's going to do anything to us."
The Ross store where the incident happened only keeps surveillance cameras above the cash register, and Lansford was in the middle of the store at the time of the robbery.
The same thing happened about 15 minutes later to a 74-year-old woman at a Hobby Lobby store down the street.
