A North Texas mom said she gets an electric shock every time she uses the bathtub. Christie Jackson lives at Legacy Apartments in White Settlement, west of Fort Worth. She said she has had the problem for three months now.
Jackson said, when she turns on the water and stands in the tub, that is when she can feel the shock. Even, she said, if she just touches the water to check the temperature -- she can feel it. "I try to check the water to see how warm or hot it is and I get shocked. I touched the faucets and I get shocked."
Jackson refuses to take baths, and is worried when she or her son are in the shower. "If you get in put your hand under the water you will get shocked," she said.
The 27-year-old said that she was desperate for a bath on Tuesday night, and tried to take one. But the second she got in, she felt the shock. It was so intense, she said, that she felt it throughout her whole body.
A White Settlement building inspector went to the complex after they got a complaint. The inspector told management to immediately call an electrician after he detected a light voltage of electricity flowing through the shower.
"It's not good to have any voltage in the tub or water system. At this point I don't know what the voltage would be the low or high of it," said White Settlement building official Kyle Reeves.
Prism Electric is looking into the problem. Wednesday, electricians spent hours trying to pinpoint the problem. In all, four units at the complex are being affected. Those residents have been told to
not use the shower until the problem is fixed.
Jackson said that she has complained for months to apartment management, but that nothing was done. The property manager told CBS 11 News that they are working on the problem, but are not sure of how long it will take to fix.
The property manager then asked CBS 11 News crews to leave the scene, and call back in a few hours for, possibly, more information.
