FBI Busts North Texas Drug Trafficking Operation
DALLAS (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
Thursday the Dallas FBI unveiled the results of a two-year operation, which targeted an alleged North Texas drug operation. The illegal endeavor reportedly transported millions of dollars worth of cocaine.
During a press conference the FBI showed the faces of those believed involved in a drug network based in Dallas, Collin and Denton counties.
In all, 17 people, most of them men, are in custody, facing drug trafficking charges.
It was called "Operation Highwaymen". For two years, the FBI investigation looked into cocaine transports from Mexico and the process to ship it via a commercial truck operation. Officials believe at least $22 Million worth of cocaine, methamphetamine and marijuana was shipped to a six state area.
Gabriel Mendoza runs a trucking company in Farmers Branch. Authorities say he, his son, and others were part of the widespread drug distribution operation.
"And we wacked them good! This is an organization that, by the indictment, has been operating nationwide for at least six years," explained Robert Casey with the FBI.
The alleged drug activity was reportedly moving into Michigan, Florida and other parts of the country, but was primarily focused in North Texas.
Law enforcement officials are still looking for 11 additional people that they believe were involved in the drug operation.
