Fort Worth Teacher Accused Of Choking 8-Year-Old
FORT WORTH (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
An 8-year-old North Texas boy claims that his teacher choked him. The school denies the claim, but police in Fort Worth are investigating the allegation.
"I just feel like there's no safety wherever your kids go," said Ronnica Washington. "You never know what will happen to him."
Washington told CBS 11 News that she was devestated when she picked up her son Thursday from Maude Logan Elementary School. He said his teacher hurt him.
"She said I'm an evil little boy," explained D'Vante Washington.
According to D'Vante, he was walking back from gym class when his teacher disciplined him for drinking out of a water fountain without her permission. "I got off the water fountain," started the young boy, "she choked me. Then she did it harder, so when I was talking, my voice kept on getting smaller and smaller."
"I called CPS and they told me I need to call the police," said the boy's mother. "And so I called the police and the police said I need to go to the school and recommend a conference with the teacher."
Ronnica Washington said that she did that three times before the school eventually scheduled a meeting.
Police in Fort Worth confirmed, however, that the meeting was canceled on the advice of the school board.
"I feel like they want me to sit back and let it just slide and go away," said Ronnica Washington. "I'm not going to do that."
Fort Worth Independent School District spokesman Clint Bond issued a response to CBS 11 News saying, "The Fort Worth Independent School District investigates all incidents of this kind. Our understanding of the facts do not support the allegations."
In the meantime, D'Vante said that he is so afraid of the teacher that his mother had him transferred into another class.
"I don't know what the next step is," said Ronnica Washington. "Whatever I've got to do, I'm going to do it to put my son and other kids out of danger up at the school."
