FB Residents Elect Immigration Measure Proponent

FARMERS BRANCH (CBS 11 News) ―
Tim O'Hare won the Farmers Branch mayoral contest with 64 percent of the vote. Still, residents are expressing mixed emotions over the win.
As a councilmember, O'Hare pushed his Dallas suburb's efforts to pass one of the country's most sweeping anti-illegal immigration measures. The proposed ordinance would have banned apartment complexes from leasing to those in this country illegally.
Tim Kelly has lived in Farmer's Branch for 38 years now and supports O'Hare. He says the crackdown on illegal immigrants will lead to new development.
"I think they're very progressive, these young guys," said Kelly. "I'm very familiar with Addison, and what has happened in Addison since I've been here I think will now happen with Farmers Branch. They are young, and they have vision."
But the owner of Las Regias restaurant, Patty Gonzalez, says she's disappointed Bledsoe didn't win. She says she's very concerned what will happen next.
"Honestly I'm very disappointed and scared because I don't know what are his plans," said Gonzalez. "I'm a business owner. There's scary to know there are people that really don't could affect us."
The ordinance banning illegal from renting apartments hasn't gone into effect because critics filed a federal lawsuit in Dallas. A federal judge has delayed the ordinance until after the case has gone to trial.
Mayor-elect O'Hare says he's prepared to take the case all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court if necessary.
