A North Texas boy is honored for saving his mother's life after a lighting strike.
Tristan Coxwell from Forney says he knew to immediately call 911 back in June after a lightning strike inside their home.
During the call the 9-year-old tries to stay calm with the dispatcher as he asks for help. "My mom and my sister got struck in the head," Tristan explained to the dispatcher.
For several minutes the dispatcher keeps him on the line as she gets help to the house.
"I heard a boom and it came through here and I just followed it," said Tristan. The bolt of lightning hit a light, a heating and air thermostat, and then the pan his mother Kimberly Krone was holding.
Tristan had seen the lightning strike and was on his way to tell his mom what he had just witnessed when he watched her hit the ground. His mother was injured and in shock. "I told Tristan to call mamaw," explained Krone. "I didn't even think of calling 911."
Tristan says he immediately grabbed his mom's cell phone and called for help. He says he was also trying to keep his younger brothers and baby sister calm, but admitted "I was scared".
Doctors say Krone was temporarily paralyzed on the left side of her body, but the family believes the outcome could have been much worse. "I am grateful for my son," said Krone. "I might have died."
In the meantime, Tristan says he's just glad his mom is okay. "I saved her and I'm going to get an award. I'm happy."
Tristan will be honored Tuesday night at the city council meeting in Forney.
