18,000 Come Out For Fort Worth Immigration Rally
DALLAS (CBS 11 News) ―
Fort Worth police are calling an immigration march there "very orderly", after making only one arrest.
Officers estimate up to 18,000 people marched through downtown Fort Worth.
Instead of cheers, there was silence, with thousands of quiet voices set out to deliver a message of unity and of hope.
One march participants said, "I think there has to be a legal way to address the issue that we have not address before and to recognize the contribution of immigrants."
As protesters marched they came with a peaceful tone.
There were plenty of signs supporting immigration reform.
Another marcher told CBS 11 News, "For families looking for something for us, we need ah respect too. America people see how much impact we have on the economy."
As onlookers watch the thousands of protesters march through downtown Fort Worth, they had different opinions about the issue.
"I think it's time to take a stand, this is finally the one that pushed me over the edge," said Phil Eubank, who was against the march.
Once the protesters reached the federal courthouse they chanted and proudly waved the American flag.
Protesters stood in the spirit of unity for immigration reform. The rally was non-violent and peaceful. Organizers say they just want their voices heard.
"We just want to let Washington D.C. know that we are intelligent people who are going to support this effort," said protester, Michael Gomez.
