Garland Community Activist Killed In Hit & Run

GARLAND (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― Police are looking for the driver responsible for a deadly hit and run motorcycle accident in Garland.

Charles King was riding his motorcycle home on LBJ and Centerville Road around 11:30 Thursday night when he was killed.

"Witnesses told police they saw two motorcycles traveling west on 635. They also saw a dark, possibly black, car driving beside the motorcycles move over, possibly changing lanes, and bump into one of the motorcycles," Garland police stated in a press release.

King's bike was hit, knocking him off. The 72-year-old was then struck by an 18-wheeler. He died instantly.

"It's a sad moment," said Mike Malloy, one of King's friends. "I can tell ya, out of all us that hangs out at Keller's, Chuck is the one that everybody looked up to the most."

Keller's Drive-In is located on Northwest Highway in Dallas. King formed the "Keller's Rat Pack" and was an active participant in motorcycle charity runs.

"We will still ride because Chuck would want that, but it won't be the same," said John English, another one of King's friends.

Now police are trying to find the driver who left the scene of the accident.

"We all loved him so much, and I know you're out there, and you know what happened. Just please come forward," said Sandy Seibert, King's girlfriend.
