Grand Prairie Police Standoff Ends In Gunfire

GRAND PRAIRIE (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― Police in Grand Prairie were called to the Grand Courtyard Apartments early Monday morning for reports of someone who was threatening to kill himself with a gun.

Authorities arrived at the apartment complex, located on Westchester Parkway in Grand Prairie, and found William Kevin Stanmore armed, barricaded in a unit and firing shots inside. Officers waited three hours for the 46-year-old man to come outside.

Police do not believe that Stanmore harmed anyone. No other people
were inside the apartment at the time of the standoff.

As police negotiations were taking place, the suspect turned the gun and started firing shots at the police. Officers shot back to keep him from injuring anyone else.

A sniper shot struck Stanmore. He was taken to Medical Center in Arlington and pronounced dead on arrival.

According to the police, the suspect suffered from Bipolar Disorder and had stopped taking his medication.
