Dallas Residents Want More Cops At St. Pat's Party

DALLAS (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― The St. Patrick's Day Block Party is one of the largest street parties in Dallas. The event is still two months away, but residents who live in the Lower Greenville area are already asking for more police presence and parking enforcement.

Every year on the Saturday before St. Patrick's Day, thousands of people take over the closed strip of road in Lower Greenville. And for many years, the nearby homeowners joined in with their own neighborhood gatherings.

However, the party has gotten so large that neighborhood associations are asking for the city to require bar owners to hire more police and security before a permit is issued to continue the annual event.

"We'd like to see more police response. We'd like to see more parking enforcement and more patrols," said Darren Dattalo of the Lower Greenville Neighborhood Association.

Police have met with both bar owners and neighborhood groups. The event is scheduled to go forward.

Although, as one Dallas resident said, even without a permit, the block party has gotten so big that nobody would be able to stop it.
