Father Suspected Of Fatally Shooting His 2 Kids

IRVING (AP) ― An Irving man faces capital murder charges after fatally shooting his 8-month-old daughter and 3-year-old son before turning the gun on himself, police said.

Hector Rolondo Medina, 27, remained in critical condition Monday after the shootings at his home Sunday evening. Irving police spokesman David Tull said Medina would face capital murder charges for both deaths but has not been formally charged.

His 8-month-old daughter, Dianna, was pronounced dead Sunday. Javier Medina, 3, was admitted in grave condition at a hospital but later died, the Dallas County medical examiner's office said Monday.

Medina was found lying in the front yard of a home shortly after 6:30 p.m. Sunday with multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body. The children were found in the home.

The children's mother was gone when the shooting took place and arrived home shortly after the police arrived. Medina and the two children were the only people in the house when the shooting occurred, Tull said.

"From what we've put together so far, apparently there were marital problems ongoing, but nothing that had risen to this magnitude," Tull said. "Unfortunately it looks like it's a domestic violence situation that went terribly, terribly wrong."
