Bush Could Head Back To Dallas After White House

by Sarah Dodd
HIGHLAND PARK (CBS 11 News) ― President George W. Bush could be returning to the Dallas area to make his home after he leaves office in two years. Highland Park is the most likely spot, and the town might be best prepared to protect the first family.

Before he began his road to the White House, or even the governor's mansion in Austin, President Bush lived in a house in Preston Hollow. That was the early 1990's. Fast forward a decade and many North Texans are already anticipating the Bush family's return.

"He's always looked forward to getting back to Texas," said Texas State Representative Dan Branch, who is personal friends with Bush. Branch last visited the president in the Oval Office in August. He says Bush did not say if he would be moving back to the Dallas area, but Branch says that hasn't stopped the residents in his district from talking.

"You hear it a lot. There's a lot of speculation and something people talk about. It's an exciting possibility, the possibility of the president returning to your community," Branch said.

One particular property in Highland Park is the focus of a lot of speculation. The 4000 Euclid address is a one acre lot worth about $2 million, and many people in Highland Park think that's where the president and first lady will make their residence.

"I've had personal conversations with the secret service, and everybody has their guesses, but as far as I can tell, they are just that… guesses," said Chief Darrell Fant, Highland Park Police Department.

Fant, the director of public safety in Highland Park, says his 54 officers are uniquely prepared. "Our whole department spends time training in protection of foreign dignitaries, because we do have foreign dignitaries who visit here."

The White House will only say - "The president hasn't made any announcements on where they'll be living."
