Highland Park Man Shot During Robbery Attempt
HIGHLAND PARK (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
Police are investigating a shooting in Highland Park.
The incident took place late Sunday night near the corner of Abbott Avenue and Knox Street.
Though there have been numerous reports of recent attacks along the Katy Trail police are not linking this crime to those attacks.
Police in Highland Park say the suspects came through an apartment complex courtyard away from the Katy Trail.
"The suspects approached the victim from the Abbott side of the street, walking through the courtyard of the apartments," said Det. Randy Millican with Highland Park Public Safety. "He was in the parking lot so the Katy Trail would have been behind him and it was not a factor at all."
Victim Shane Larson was confronted at the corner of the apartment complex.
During the 911 call to police the victim told the operator, "They had a small, small gun and I thought it was a cap gun. And they just tried to; they came walking through the carport and I'm not really sure, I mean I thought it was a fake gun."
Larson is in good condition with a bullet lodged in his lung.
Highland Park police say Larson had stepped outside to have a cigarette when two men approached him and demanded money. Larson told authorities that at first he thought the men were joking and even shoved one of the suspects."This is not something that normally happens in Highland Park," said Jeff Wilson, a resident who lives near the crime scene. "This is the bubble. This is one of the safest places."
No arrests have been made.
