Highland Park PD Wants Carriages Off Street
HIGHLAND PARK (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
It's become a tradition for the Krampitz'. Each year the family takes a ride down Beverly Street in Highland Park on a horse carriage.
Dad takes pictures, Ethan eats cookies and Nicole looks forward to feeding the horse.
But recently for some carriage passengers the ride left behind some unpleasant memories.
For safety reasons the owner and operator of Bell Star Carriages has been asked to stay off Beverly Street by Highland Park police. The request is voluntary and so far police haven't issued any citations.
Officials feel the carriages could be a traffic hazard because more drivers are using Beverly Street because of the Mockingbird detour.
The carriage company has already lost money because of the request, which the owner feels is unfair.
For many of the homeowners who spent hours and money putting up Christmas lights, they welcome visitors.
Carriage drivers say on average they spend about 16 minutes on Beverly Drive four times a night.
