Fire Crews Battle Blaze At Houston High-Rise
HOUSTON (AP) ―
Fire broke out Monday on the fifth-floor of an eight-story building housing elderly residents, forcing the evacuation of 12 people.
The three-alarm fire was contained and no one was injured, Fire Department Capt. Beda Kent said.
Some of the evacuees in the Bellerive Senior High Rise, a public housing unit for low-income elderly people, were rescued by ladder from the fifth floor, where flames and smoke could be seen pouring from a window.
Rebecca Moran, a spokeswoman for Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital, said the hospital received three people from the fire and all were in "good, stable" condition. She could provide no other details.
