Some Gustav Dogs, Cats Relocating To Texas Shelter

McKINNEY (AP) ―

More than 100 dogs and cats being sheltered in Louisiana after Hurricane Gustav will be available for adoption in Texas.

TheĀ Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals late Wednesday announced 78 dogs and 33 cats were being transported to the group's animal care center in McKinney, about 30 miles north of Dallas.

The animals were at a shelter in Lake Charles, and available for adoption, before being moved to a facility in Shreveport as Gustav approached Louisiana.

The hurricane made landfall Monday.

The SPCA says the cats and dogs are being transported to Texas so the Lake Charles Animal Control shelter can assist with the pets of hurricane evacuees.
