Evacuees Get Special Delivery Before Going Home

FORT WORTH (CBS 11 News) ― One family from Louisiana isn't heading home just yet because they had a special delivery here in North Texas.

Amber Shaw was just days away from her due date when Hurricane Gustav forced evacuations in New Orleans. The 19-year-old was already having sporadic contractions Saturday morning when she and her husband drove from their home in Louisiana to Fort Worth.

After 16 hours of labor, Brae Valor Shaw was born at Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth Wednesday night.

Shaw talked about what it felt like to have the baby. "Ah, relief and excitement, and I don't know, I cried. I was like, 'Yes, it's over.'"

Shea Shaw, Amber's husband, agreed. "Relief. Huge relief that we weren't in a bad situation. That he was healthy, that she was healthy."

Shae Shaw is a sergeant in the Marines. He has a couple of weeks off with his newborn son. The Shaws will spend that time with family members in Fort Worth before heading back to New Orleans.
